Squarespace 7.1 update

Upgrade from version 7.0 to access new features and more design flexibility.

How does it work?

If you’re currently using the older version of Squarespace (7.0) then an update tool is now available to allow you to upgrade to the latest version (7.1) for free.

The update tool will try and match your existing site design and you will see a preview of your site on version 7.1 so you can make some design changes before you go live with the new version. It is improving, but the tool is still a bit hit and miss so you will almost certainly need to spend some time tweaking the spacing, fonts and colours.

Once you’re on version 7.1, you’ll have the option of another upgrade, this time to the new content editor: Fluid Engine. Suuuuuper terrible name but it’s pretty cool. It basically feels more like moving content around on Canva or a PowerPoint. And no more wrangling with spacer blocks!

Technically you can do all of these upgrades yourself, but I know that can feel a bit scary and you might worry about messing up your site. If this sounds familiar, I can take care of the update process for you, with the option of a design and/or content refresh at the same time.

What do you get?

  • A clear plan for how the update will take place to minimise disruption

  • Key preparation steps to take for a smoother update experience*

  • A backup copy of your 7.0 website for reference and the option to preview your 7.1 updated design

  • All pages updated to the editing version of your choice

  • Advice about the impact the update will have on any custom code you’re using

  • Fixes for your custom code where possible (I’ll let you know any limitations beforehand)

  • Optional updates to your design and content at the same time for a full website refresh ✨

  • Training on how to use the new version

*I’m not gatekeeping these, I’m just really terrible at writing content. Maybe contact me to ask what they are and it will prompt me to actually do it 😅
